Summary: Cell division
Summary · Short · Made 2 Oct 2026 with Claude Code (sonnet)
The demo opens this same saved summary whatever length you chose, and shows its first part.
This material covers cell division: the cell cycle, the four phases of mitosis, how the cycle is controlled, and mitosis compared with meiosis.
The cell cycle
- Interphase is the longest part of the cycle:
- G1: the cell grows and makes proteins and organelles.
- S: the DNA is replicated. Each chromosome then consists of two sister chromatids joined at the centromere.
- G2: the cell grows further and prepares for division.
- The M phase is mitosis (division of the nucleus) plus cytokinesis (division of the cytoplasm).
- Cells divide for growth, for repair and replacement, and in some organisms for asexual reproduction.
- A large cell has a problem: its volume grows faster than its surface area, so exchange across the membrane becomes too slow.
Flashcards: Cell division

Flip the cards, take the practice test and redo what you missed. You can press the card here to flip it.
What you get
Practice tests that explain the answer
Right and wrong are marked, with the reason why.
Question 2 · 1 point
Wrong · 0 / 1A cell becomes very large. Why does this cause a problem?
Why
Volume increases faster than surface area, so the membrane cannot exchange materials fast enough. This is one reason cells divide. The other options describe things the material does not link to cell size.

Use the AI you already have
The app never charges you for AI. You use what you already have, and pay that provider as you already do; Ollama runs on your own computer.
| AI | What you need | What it reads | Tried for real |
|---|---|---|---|
| Claude Code | Installed and signed in. | Text, photos, and scanned PDFs of up to 20 pages. | Yes, it works. |
| Codex | Installed and signed in. | Text and photos, not scanned PDFs. | Yes, it works. |
| Ollama | Installed, with a model. Runs on your own computer. | Text. Photos need a model that can see. | Not yet: it is built, but has not run with a real model. |
| Your own API key | A key from Anthropic, OpenAI or Google. | Text, photos, and scanned PDFs of up to 20 pages. | Not yet: it is built, but has not run with a working key. |
With Ollama your material stays on your computer. With the other three it is sent to that AI’s company when you press a button, and nowhere else.
Results are written by an AI and can be wrong. Check them against your material.
Get Studiplan
Studiplan turns your materials into summaries, cheat sheets, flashcards and practice tests with your own AI, and it is free.
Version 0.1.0 is for 64-bit Windows 10 or later and is about 90 MB. A Mac version is planned.
Installing on Windows
It installs for you alone, without administrator rights. Uninstalling removes the program and leaves your library and files alone.
The installer is not signed: a code-signing certificate costs money, and this free project has none. So Windows SmartScreen shows “Windows protected your PC”. Two clicks get you past it:
- 1More info
- 2Run anyway
On a Windows 11 PC with Smart App Control turned on, Windows will not let the installer run at all.
Check your download
Because the installer is not signed, here is its SHA-256. In PowerShell, in the folder you downloaded it to, run:
Get-FileHash .\Studiplan-Setup-0.1.0.exe -Algorithm SHA256
The result must be exactly this:
